40 Hours Devotion
Beginning Friday, March 2nd at 6:00 pm through Sunday, March 4th, 6:00 pm
The Forty Hours’ Devotion (in Latin, Quarantore) is an ancient tradition of the Church that St. Charles Parish wishes to reclaim during Lent. During this devotion, forty hours of continuous prayer is made before the Blessed Sacrament in solemn exposition.
The origin of this devotion is not clear, but by the time of the Renaissance it was a beloved practice of the Church. St. Charles Borromeo, the patron of our parish, compares the hours of this devotion to the forty hours Christ’s body remained in the tomb.
Our Forty Hours Devotion will begin at 6 pm on Friday, March 2nd with the Solemn Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, and conclude with Benediction at 5:30 pm on Sunday, March 4th. Holy Mass will follow immediately afterwards at 6 pm. At times during Saturday and Sunday, the Blessed Sacrament will be reposed in the tabernacle during the weekend Masses, but there will be many hours during the two days and nights to come and pray before Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. There will be other prayer opportunities that will take place during this time that we hope will enhance parishioners’ prayer.
All are welcome to pray before our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament!

In addition to this prayerful event, we are looking for "adorers of our Lord" who can commit to pray for one hour throughout the forty hour devotion because Jesus should never be left alone when the Eucharist is exposed in the Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
